Healthy 2013 Begins Today...

Today is the day I start my new plan towards fitness & health.

Hubby and I sat down on Saturday and created a work out plan designed to get me ready for the Tough Mudder in June. Each week, we plan to adjust this plan to be specific to my needs, any pain, and how I'm progressing.

This week goes as follows.

Tuesday: Cardio (treadmill)
5 minute warm up
6 miles run
5 minute cool down

Wednesday: Strength Training

Thursday: Cardio (treadmill)

Friday: Strength Training

Saturday: Cardio

  1. Hi Jen! This is Megan from The Homes I Have Made. I got your comment over on my blog but didn't have a way to respond to you bc your email wasn't included. I hope it's okay that I find you here bc I really wanted to tell you a bit about my experience with moving. We have ALWAYS used the military movers; and to be honest, you couldn't pay me a million dollars to do it myself! Moving is such a big ordeal on its own, and even before the movers come and after they leave there is SO much work to be done, that I have to let go and let the movers to do the tough work. We have had no bad experiences in four moves. We've lost a few things over the years: a bowl, a few wine glasses, but nothing so expensive it was worth doing a claim for. It is strange to see strangers toss around your stuff, but to be honest, they are professional packers and know how to pack things (esp dishes, electronics, mirrors, frames) so much better than I do. I think we'd have a lot more damage if I did the packing! People always say to me "but the military moves you, how bad can it be?" What they don't understand is moving stuff is one thing...getting it ready and unpacking is a completely different thing. You still have to make everything fit in a new house, you still need to prep valuable items, etc. It's a lot more work than most people realize. As far as prep, I always do a full-house purge in the months leading up the a PCS. I go room-to-room, week-by-week, and get rid of things we aren't using. I also purge after the move when everything comes out of boxes. You get to look at everything you own and determine whether you really need to keep it or not! We let packers pack everything except for important documents, computers, and valuable jewelry. (we pack those and hand carry them with us.) As far as getting the house ready, beyond purging, you need to distinctly separate out what gets packed and what doesn't (that stuff you want with you: valuables, clothes, etc). We always found that sectioning off a bathroom as a NO PACK ZONE was really helpful. Anything we didn't want them to touch, goes in that room. When the movers come, we shut the door and put a sign on it that says NO PACK. Lastly, make sure all your trash, plants, liquids, etc are disposed of - and clean and wash out anything that had foods or liquids in them. Also, different moving companies have different policies about liquids - some will packing ANYTHING (including your full cup of coffee), others won't even pack baby lotion. Be prepared to deal with this the day of. Oh - and one more thing - donuts, pizza, and bottled water go a LONG way in making your movers happy :)

Sorry this was long and rambling. Please feel free to email me with any further questions!
